Annually, on Holy Thursday, the image of Our Lady of Enxara is transported in a procession from the Church of Ouguela to the Sanctuary, a few kilometers away, returning on Monday after Easter.
Legend has it that one day a woman was washing the river in the company of her daughter playing. As he left to play, the child returned shortly afterwards with a gold earring claiming to have been offered by a very pretty lady.
When they returned to the place where the girl met the lady, they encounter the image of Our Lady on a round stone, which is now in the Sanctuary.
