Kadavu
Kadavu is the fourth largest island of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, with an area of 411 km², and the largest island of the Kadavu group, a volcanic archipelago formed by the islands Kadavu, Ono, Galoa and several smaller islands in the Great Astrolabe Reef Reef, in English). Its main city is Vunisea, which has an airport, a secondary school, a hospital and a government base. Suva, the capital of the country, is located 88 km north of Kadavu on the island of Viti Levu.
Tourism
This island is preserved. Fijians are living in a traditional way and therefore there are not many amenities for the visitor. There is no road, no vehicle, except a very limited amount around the airport. No internet, communications or TV service.
The resorts offer scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching and village tours.
In Fiji, all beaches are public. The land may be privately owned, so do not venture into the countryside without the permission of the village or the owner. Also remember that no alcohol is allowed in the villages. Women should cover their shoulders and knees and wear a hat or sunglasses on their heads or eyes if they visit a village or church. The resorts in Kadavu are quiet. Bring a book and enjoy serenity.

Gastronomy
Anywhere in Kadavu you will be offered Kava. Alcohol is not allowed in any of the villages and this is the social drink of this place. It does not taste unpleasant, but not particularly good either. Some people experience a bit of "numbness" on the lips or tongue.
There are bakeries that make bread daily.
Local shops have minimal needs and in the airport store they have ice cream, a rarity.
