Punaauia
Punaauia is a commune in the suburbs of Papeete in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. Punaauia is located on the island of Tahiti, in the administrative subdivision of the Windward Islands, which are part of the islands of society. In the late 1890s, the French painter Paul Gauguin lived in Punaauia. The commune is bordered by Faaa to the north and Paea to the south

Mountain bananas, smoked breadfruit, tropical fruit pudding called poe, a plate of marinated fish called "poisson cru" and piglet served with spinach are the most commonly served Tahiti dishes. Most international restaurants in Papeete specialize in French, Chinese or Italian cuisine.
Tahiti's noni tree juice is best known for its ability to improve health, while Hinano is the most common local beer.
