The natural surroundings are beautiful with the southern Cretan Sea, the mountain and the natural forest in the North. There are daily boat trips from Makrygialos to a small island called Koufonisi. Here, you can escape to true Cretan nature. You could also visit 3 other traditional Cretan villages and 2 archaeological places in the village (the Minoan and the Greek Roman villa).
